MHJJ Liason

Joe received his Master’s degree in social work, social policy and social administration from the University of Chicago’s Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice. Joe specializes in contextual behavioral practices such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the Unified Protocol (UP). Joe practices these therapeutic orientations in a client-centered format, emphasizing the importance of a non-pathologizing, strengths-based approach to clinical treatment. Primarily working with children and adolescents in the Mental Health Juvenile Justice (MHJJ) program, Joe encourages active family education and involvement in treatment and a collaborative relationship that values children’s insight into their experiences. As the MHJJ Liaison, Joe has worked with children and adolescents at-risk or involved with the juvenile justice system. Joe has experience working with clients presenting a variety of needs, including: interpersonal difficulties, impulsivity, trauma, autism spectrum symptoms, substance use problems, violence/aggression, depression, psychosis, sleep issues, and psychosis. Joe also provides case management services including referrals for residential services, partial-hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, educational accommodations, psychiatric services, and hospital linkage. Outside of his work at Trilogy, Joe enjoys writing songs, critiquing music, reading science-fiction, cooking, and playing video games with friends.
